Today was a day to give thanks for all the things we have, and to remember those of us who are less fortunate by donating over the holidays. We did that on this Thanksgiving Day with cake. A special something extra to make the women living in the new homeless shelter on 20th Avenue and 127th Street in College Point feel more human because that's what they are, and we should understand that there are times when people are down on their luck, and just need a helping hand to get back on their feet. No one grows up thinking...oh, I want to be homeless, it just happens, sometimes due to circumstances beyond our control. So next time you see someone struggling to get by be kind because that could be you one day.
